This year’s annual Holodomor Awareness Week looked a little different than it has in the past. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we weren't able to host our usually information tables across campus and interact with students directly, but we weren't about to let that stop us from spreading awareness of the Holodomor and commemorating the lives lost. With a little creativity and some help from SUSK, we created a number of Holodomor installations around campus and downtown Victoria with information on the Holodomor. Maybe you saw them? The installations consisted of postcards designed by our President and SUSK executive Chase Gargus. On one side, the postcards featured compelling artwork depicting the hardships of the Holodomor taken from the “Holodomor: Through the Eyes of Ukrainian Artists” Collection compiled by Morgan Williams. On the other side, the cards had information about the Genocide and links to read more.
We placed the postcards around our community and encouraged our members to take some time to walk through campus while reflecting on what the Holodomor means to them and the impact it had on our community while searching for the various Holodomor installations. Although we couldn't gather in person this year, we all took this time to reflect on the legacy of the Holodomor. Hopefully this time next year, we can once again gather together. Until then, Вічна пам’ять
